A YAPi combine is a fun, supportive environment where young athletes (ages 6–18) go through a series of professional-grade athletic assessments. Here's everything your child will do.
The full session takes about 25–35 minutes per athlete. Your child will rotate through 7 stations with a trained tester guiding them through each one. Sprint and jump events get 3 attempts so your child can give their best effort. All data is recorded digitally and sent to your dashboard and email immediately after the session.
What happens: Your child stands straight against a measuring board. Wingspan is measured fingertip to fingertip with arms outstretched.
Why we measure it: Baseline body measurements help track growth over time and are key inputs for athletic projection models.
What happens: A simple step on a digital scale.
Why we measure it: Combined with height, this helps calculate body composition trends and power-to-weight ratios.
What happens: Your child sprints 40 yards in a straight line from a standing start. They get 3 attempts — the fastest time is recorded.
Why we measure it: The gold standard for measuring straight-line speed. Used at every level from youth to the NFL Combine.
What happens: Standing flat-footed, your child jumps as high as they can and touches a measuring device. 3 attempts — best jump counts.
Why we measure it: Measures explosive lower-body power, one of the strongest predictors of athletic potential across all sports.
What happens: From a standing position, your child jumps forward as far as possible, landing on both feet. 3 attempts — longest jump counts.
Why we measure it: Tests horizontal explosive power and coordination. Closely correlates with sprint speed and agility.
What happens: Starting in a three-point stance, your child sprints 5 yards to one side, 10 yards back the other way, then 5 yards back to the start. 3 attempts — fastest time counts.
Why we measure it: The pro agility drill measures lateral quickness, change of direction speed, and acceleration — critical for field and court sports.
What happens: Your child squeezes a handheld dynamometer as hard as they can with each hand.
Why we measure it: Grip strength is a surprisingly strong indicator of overall body strength and is tracked in sports science research worldwide.
What happens: The tester makes a quick observation about whether your child tends toward introversion or extroversion during the session. This is not a test — just a noted observation.
Why we measure it: Personality style can influence coaching approaches and team dynamics. This is a soft data point, not a judgment.
All testers are trained in working with young athletes. Parents are welcome to watch from the sidelines. Your child's data is private — only you decide who sees it. We're COPPA-compliant and require parental consent before collecting any data for athletes under 13.
Results are sent to your email and available on your YAPi dashboard immediately. You'll see how your child compares to others in their age group and gender with percentile rankings. Come back to future combines to track improvement over time — that's where YAPi really shines.
